How to Set Up Your Restaurant's Digital Presence From Scratch

April 10, 2026Opening a Restaurant

A practical guide for restaurant owners on digital presence from scratch.

Last updated: April 2026

You have a restaurant but no website, no Google listing, and no online menu. Customers search for you and find nothing. Or worse, they find an outdated listing that someone else created.

Here is how to go from zero to a complete digital presence in one afternoon.

Hour 1: Google Business Profile

This is the single most important step. Go to business.google.com, create your listing, and fill in everything: name, address, phone, hours, category, and description.

Upload 5 to 10 photos: your exterior, interior, and best dishes. Add your menu items as text (not a PDF).

Hour 2: Digital menu + QR code

Build your menu on a hosted platform. Enter your items, prices, and descriptions. Choose a theme. Publish.

You now have a shareable link (for Google, social media, and your website) and a QR code (for your tables and window).

Hour 3: Social media

Create an Instagram account and a Facebook page. Post 3 to 5 photos of your restaurant and food. Add your menu link to your Instagram bio. Join local neighbourhood Facebook groups and introduce your restaurant.

Hour 4: Other platforms

Claim or create your listing on Yelp, TripAdvisor, Bing Places, and Apple Maps. Make sure your name, address, and phone match your Google listing exactly.

What about a website?

A full website is valuable but not urgent. Your Google Business Profile, digital menu page, and social media accounts cover the essential functions: customers can find you, see your menu, read reviews, and get directions.

When you are ready for a website, keep it simple: homepage with your story, a menu page (link to your hosted menu), location and hours, and a reservation or contact form. You do not need anything fancy.

The result

After one afternoon of work, customers searching for your restaurant will find:

  • Your Google listing with photos, hours, and menu
  • Your menu on their phone (via QR code or direct link)
  • Your social media accounts with visual content
  • Consistent information across multiple platforms

That puts you ahead of the majority of independent restaurants, many of which have been open for years with incomplete or nonexistent digital presences.
